The Keepers Log

The newsletter of the Lighthouse Song & Sign Ministry.

Good morning Friends of Lighthouse,
And greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is one of our occasional newsletters to friends and fellow lovers of Jesus Christ to let you know what we're up to in our ministry. For the first time in a while, there is much to report, so please read on. But first:

(HOW TO UNSUBSCRIBE -- You are receiving this newsletter because you have contacted us through our Web site or have signed our Guestbook. If you would like to be removed from future mailings, please reply to this email with the word Unsubscribe in the subject line.)

CATCHING UP

It has been months since we have written a Keeper's Log, mainly because it has been months since our ministry has been active outside of our own church. Mark's bout with pneumonia and asthma that put him in the hospital for a week in February ended up keeping him out of work for two months and kept him from singing for even longer than that. He has been slowly recuperating while increasing his participation in the church worship band and gradually getting his wind and vocal chords back. Now God has finally led us to resume our ministry schedule, which we will do in high gear this weekend.

COME SEE US THIS SUNDAY

We are pleased to report that we will be busy with two worship services and a concert this Sunday (Aug. 26) and we would love for you to come join us. At 11 a.m., we will lead the worship service at our church, the Salvation Army Corps at 739 Water St., Fitchburg. The church is on Route 12 about a mile a half north of Route 2, right across the street from the WEIM Radio Station. You can't miss it.

At 4 p.m., we will be leading a worship service at the Athol Salvation Army, 107 Ridge Ave. The service will be followed by a community supper and then a concert by The Praise Brothers and Sister Sonya (that's our Gospel singing group) at 6:30 p.m. The corps is just off Main Street behind the bank that is at the corner of Main and Exchange streets. Turn north at the lights at that intersection and pull into the parking lot behind the bank. You'll see the Baptist Church right there behind the fire station and the Army corps is next to it. Everyone is invited to the service, the supper and the concert.

MORE CONCERTS TO COME

In the next couple of months we will be doing concerts in Barre and Hyannis, Mass. and in Brattleboro, Vt., and we're hoping to do lots more in other places. The Barre concert is for a church women's group and is not open to the public, but the Hyannis concert is at the Salvation Army on North Street on Sunday, Oct. 14. We will be leading the worship service at 11:30 that morning and the concert will be at 3 in the afternoon. Hope you can make it. The date for the Brattleboro concert has not yet been set.

If you'd like us to visit your church, send us an email and we'll set up a date and time. We lead worship, do concerts, lead children's ministry programs, teach about Deaf Ministry, etc., and we'd love to share with you.

OUR NEW CD

The Praise Brothers, comprised of Mark and friend Jon Evans, with Sonya helping out with sign language, have released their first CD, titled "The Praise Brothers". It contains 13 songs written by Mark, Jon and a number of other songwriters from around country, including the popular "Glory Train" and "Ten Feet Tall. The CD concludes with Mark's rendition of "Packing For the Journey", a song Jon wrote as his wife Ginny prepared to meet the Lord after her two-year battle with cancer. It is a beautiful testimony to Ginny's faith and her certainty about spending eternity with her Lord. The CD is dedicated to Ginny and also includes the song she co-wrote with Jon and Mark, "Sharing the Love of Jesus."A tribute to Joe Hummer is also part of the CD. Joe co-wrote more than a hundred songs with Mark during nearly a decade before his sudden death from cancer in January. Seven of Joe's songs are on the CD, including everyone's favorite, "The Old Wooden Chapel."If you're interested in purchasing a CD, they will soon by available for just $10 on the "Our Music" page at www.lighthouseministry.org/music.htm.

And if you're interested in hosting The Praise Brothers for a CD-release concert, please email us. We are looking for fall and winter bookings. You can learn more about our ministry and our music at www.PraiseBrothers.org.

OTHER NEWS FROM THE LIGHTHOUSE

As most of you know, Mark has been accepted at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and will begin online courses in September. His future remains in God's hand, but he definitely feels led to step off on this new journey toward what he believes and hopes will be a life of even greater service to Jesus Christ.

Sonya, meanwhile, remains devoted to her sign language ministry in our church and in the churches we visit, as well as her service through clinical counseling of children and families with the Y.O.U. Inc. social service agency or Worcester and Gardner, Mass.

BLESSINGS TO ALL

We're so glad to finally be back in the business of God's ministry and hope to see and hear from all of you in the coming weeks and months. May you have a wonderful and blessed remainder of the summer and may the Lord fill you to overflowing with His love.

Always in His love,
Mark and Sonya
